Toyota SA & Chiefs Uplift Kids at Ethelbert Centre

Durban – In a spirit of compassion and community, Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) and Kaizer Chiefs Football Club visited the Ethelbert Child & Youth Care Centre in KwaZulu-Natal ahead of the Toyota Cup match at Moses Mabhida this Saturday, 26 July.

Building on the momentum that began on Mandela Day in 2023, this collaborative initiative continues to transform sponsorship visibility into meaningful support for South Africa’s most vulnerable communities bringing not only donations, but connection, encouragement, and joy to the children living in the centre.

As part of their ongoing Heart on Sleeve initiative, the two partners delivered essentials including brand-new clothing, groceries, toiletries, microwaves, and match tickets to the upcoming Toyota Cup. Small gestures with big meaning for young people facing incredibly challenging circumstances.

“For Toyota South Africa, Heart on Sleeve is more than a campaign, it is a shared commitment between Toyota and Kaizer Chiefs to show up for communities in a meaningful way. It is about turning visibility into value, and sponsorship into service,” said Tasneem Lorgat, General Manager: Marketing Communications at Toyota South Africa Motors. “Together, we’re using this platform not just to represent our brands, but to live our values, by standing alongside organisations like Ethelbert that are doing the real work of care and upliftment.”

“We’re very happy to be here at the Ethelbert Child and Youth Care Centre with Toyota to inspire and empower the children of this home, and to say thank you to the caregivers for the work they are doing. What a great initiative, a home looking after young kids who are abandoned, and some who cannot be cared for in their own homes. It’s a good thing to do as part of our Heart on Sleeve campaign, to say we can give back, share, and empower. So, thank you Toyota for allowing us to come and share the spirit of love and peace,” said Jessica Motaung, Marketing Director at Kaizer Chiefs Football Club.

The day’s programme began with a warm welcome, followed by remarks from Toyota, Kaizer Chiefs, and representatives from the centre. The children were then treated to an energetic coaching clinic led by Kaizer Chiefs players, filled with laughter, movement, and play. The event also featured media interviews and photo opportunities that captured the essence of Ubuntu and shared responsibility.
