Two wins for Toyota at Cars.co.za awards

Toyota scored two first place wins in this year’s Cars.co.za Awards, a notable achievement considering the level of competition.

The Cars.co.za Awards is unique in South Africa in that it takes the viewpoints of the public into consideration. The individual category scores are made up by a 50% judging-panel vote and 50% consumer vote. The highest-rated vehicle amongst the three pre-selected finalists is then declared the winner based on their score.

For the third year in a row the Toyota Fortuner was named Adventure Car of the Year, beating the Ford Everest and Haval H9 in the process. This victory has been proven in the market too, where the Fortuner is South Africa’s best-selling SUV.

New to the Cars.co.za awards is the Toyota Supra 3.0T, which marked its entry into the competition by winning the Performance Car category, beating heavy hitters in the shape of the BMW M2 Competition and Ford Mustang GT to do so.

With the highest overall score of any vehicle in the competition – both judges and consumers gave the Supra ‘full marks’ with an aggregate score of over 85%. The Mk5 Supra rekindles arguably one of the most emotive nameplates, with a turbocharged 3.0-litre straight six engine and super-responsive 8-speed automatic transmission. Perfectly balanced handling, driver feedback and all-round performance excellence are some of Supra’s resounding qualities.
