5 things you should know about the new Toyota Fortuner

The new Toyota Fortuner arrived in South Africa at the end of 2020, and it features some significant upgrades. Here are five that stand out:

1. The 2.8-litre GD-6 turbodiesel engine has been given more power and torque, with 150kW and 500Nm respectively, which is 20kW and 50Nm more than the previous model. Fuel economy of the 2.8 GD-6 version has been improved by 11.6% on the combined cycle, and as much as 17% around town!

2. A new luxury VX grade has been introduced. The VX badge is used in other Toyota SUVs (RAV4, Prado and Land Cruiser 200) and denotes the highest specification level on offer.

3. Towing rating of both the 2.4 GD-6 4x4 models and the 2.8 GD-6 4x4 models has been increased to 3300kg. The 2.4 GD-6 4x4 was previously 2500kg, while the 2.8 GD-6 4x4 was 3000kg.

4. It’s safer! Advanced Toyota Safety Sense technologies include a pre-collision safety system with pedestrian (day and night) and cyclist (daytime) detection, lane-departure alert with steering assist, and high-speed active cruise control.

5. An 8-inch multimedia screen is now featured, and it includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
