Toyota’s support 2000GT with spares
If you own or have ever owned a classic car, you’ll know that buying spares is both necessary and a real headache.
With many cars, the production and availability of spare parts diminishes over time, forcing owners to resort to buying pirate parts or to cannibalise other cars for spares.
It is therefore great news when a car manufacturer decides to continue manufacturing spares or, as in this case, start to make spares again.
To this end, Toyota Gazoo Racing, the racing division of Toyota Motors, has an established division called GR Heritage Parts, which does exactly that for certain iconic Toyota vehicles. The aim of the division is to reproduce and resell spare parts for classic, older Toyota sports cars, so that these cars continue to be seen on the road and on the track for years to come.
A while ago GR Heritage Parts announced that they would supply parts for the A70 and A80 model Supra, and they have just announced that their support will now extend to the Toyota 2000GT.
The Toyota 2000GT was launched in 1967, in collaboration with Yamaha Motor Co. Only 337 units were manufactured before it was phased out in 1970. You may recognise it from the James Bond film, You Only Live Twice.
It featured the latest Japanese technology, including a 2.0-liter DOHC straight six engine, four-wheel double-wishbone suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, radial tires, magnesium alloy wheels, and retractable headlamps, while boasting a maximum speed of 220 km/h - on a par with European sports cars of the day.
Toyota South Africa Motors owns a 2000GT heritage vehicle and have embarked on a total restoration of it, with the assistance of the GR Heritage spares.
Spares available from GR Heritage will be available for ordering through Toyota dealers worldwide. Due to the scarcity of the vehicles and the spares, only owners of 2000GT vehicles will be able to order spares for these vehicles, and the number of spares will be limited per vehicle.
