The Lexus LC 500 is the ultimate indication that you have arrived and have style.

Rear-wheel drive. 351kW and 540Nm, produced by a screaming 5-litre V8 engine. 0 – 100km/h in just 4.7 seconds. A top speed of 270km/h. The world’s fastest-shifting 10-speed automatic gearbox. A chassis that has been designed with balance, rigidity and precision in mind. This is the Lexus LC 500, probably the most exciting Lexus ever built, and one of the most desirable cars on the road right now.

And while all of the above adds up an incredible driving experience that will thrill and titillate, it is just one of three main strings in the Lexus LC’s bow, alongside the sensational interior and delectable styling.  

Lexus pulled out all the stops in designing the LC 500, creating the very best interior they have ever made, bar none, and that is saying something. Ensconced behind the steering wheel it’s hard to imagine how the cabin could have been improved, even with limitless budget. The seats themselves are a melody in leather, perfectly crated to be both beautiful and do their job – be supportive and comfortable.

Looking around there are so many little touches that are more art than automotive design – the flowing door panels that follow the contours of the door, the twisting grab handle for passengers, the sensual door handles that remind you that driving needn’t be purely functional. The 3-spoke steering wheel is an ode to the experience of driving, while a 13-speaker Mark Levinson audio system delivers opera-house level sound.

And in addition to all the mechanical driving technology there is a plethora of electronic driving aids to further enhance the experience: Dynamic Rear Steering (DRS), for controlling the rear-wheel steering angle; Variable Gear Ratio Steering (VGRS), for controlling the front-wheel steering angle; and Electric Power Steering (EPS) to control steering torque, all work together to create optimum vehicle responsiveness on all four wheels, as well as enhanced vehicle stability when the LC500 is pushed to the limit.

The LC 500 is a car that stands out in any situation. Powerful haunches housing wide, low-profile tyres on forged 21-inch wheels are the first indication that this is a performance vehicle, while the family spindle grille at the other end is a statement of intent all by itself. Between the two are sculpted flanks with flared air dams. Topping it all off, quite literally, is a carbon-fibre reinforced roof for lightness and strength.

Lexus might not be the first brand that you think of when you’re in the market for a performance coupe, but if the LC 500 is an indication of what the brand will be doing for the foreseeable future, this just might change.
