Hino Motors, the heavy-duty truck and bus division of the Toyota Group, has announced that all new trucks offered from the end of April 2021 will be fitted with HINO-CONNECT as standard.

HINO-CONNECT is a joint venture with Cartrack, an international mobility solutions provider that has operations in Africa, Asia, Europe and the United States.

A full-fleet management system, HINO-CONNECT wirelessly links customers to Hino and supports the normal operation of trucks and buses. There is a dedicated website for customers and a number of notifications, so that unexpected problems can be dealt with quickly. The system also generates reports that can be used to improve fuel consumption and safe vehicle operation, while it benefits both day-to-day operation and emergency responses. It can even be used to plan preventative or proactive maintenance.

Hino-Connect will be fitted to all Dyna, 300, 500 and 700 models as standard, and a 3-year subscription to the service will be included in the initial purchase price. Three sets of data will be supplied by the management system, including:

  • Positional data for tracking and recovery as well as distances travelled.
  • Vehicle performance data including fuel consumption, oil and water temperatures and speed.
  • Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) fault reporting direct to Hino SA and the dealer concerned, who will know what is wrong before getting to the vehicle, thereby enabling quicker reaction time to get the vehicle back on the road.

The benefits of this service are many, and all data is stored for five years, with the last six months’ data available immediately. “This comprehensive telematics solution will be an important, additional tool to ensure we continue to provide the highest levels of customer satisfaction,” explained Ernie Trautmann, Vice President of Hino South Africa.

“Over the years Hino has increased the number of value-added products offered to its customers, ranging from extended service intervals to competitive service and maintenance plans, warranties on replacement parts fitted by franchise dealers and now HINO-CONNECT will open the way to us considering a buyback and preowned truck programme,” added Trautmann.
