Electric Lexus: 2 million sales and counting

Lexus recently completed its two millionth global sale of an electrified vehicle, an incredible achievement for a luxury vehicle manufacturer and a major step towards carbon neutrality for the sister-brand of Toyota. This achievement is on the back of over 15 years of pioneering engineering by Lexus, since the RX 400h was launched in 2005 as the first hybrid Lexus.

In 2020, 33% of Lexus vehicles sold globally were of the electrified variety. Lexus has also established itself as the leader in the luxury hybrid vehicle segment in South Africa and there are hybrid models in almost every Lexus model range in the country, as well as two model ranges that are hybrid-only, the newly-launched IS sedan and compact UX SUV.

Lexus is developing their electrified technology further, and will reveal the first Lexus plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) in 2021, and the first Lexus battery electric vehicle (BEV) on a dedicated platform in 2022. By 2025, Lexus International will debut 20 new or improved models, including more than 10 BEVs, PHEVs, and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). In the same year Lexus International will make available an electrified version of every model in its line-up
